Welcome to Cairns Shop Supplies!

 Well after popping into the only local shop supply store in Cairns - Abacus shop fittings, I noticed there was not much stock in the shop since my last visit a few months earlier. I heard some people at the back of the store negotiating the sale of some warehouse racking when it clicked to me...its closing down!

Upon talking with the owner, he confirmed that times had changed. The big boys were too hard to compete with let alone the internet. With the amount of shops closing there was plenty of 2^nd hand items on the market as well.

I was having a good chat with the owner, meanwhile customers keep coming into the store. My entrepreneur brain was ticking as I pondered. Where are people going to go now? Bunnings was my 1st thought (what don't they have!). The internet? While it may be cheap, it still doesn't provide a small town with good old " Face to Face " customer service. I felt sad that another local store was closing its doors in Cairns.

As it happens, I own a shop not far away which my tenant was also closing his doors & I was struggling to find a new tenant. The real estate agents were telling me how low the inquiries were around town & this reflected by the amount of " For Sale / For Lease signs around town. They are EVERYWHERE! There seemed to be quite a bit of development around town & I just could not accept that another small business was closing at a time when what I believe may finally be the turning point for Cairns.

I am a big believer in timing, so after doing some research, and (convincing the minister of finance) here I am setting up my website preparing to give it a go!

Now I have big shoes to fill the void Abacus has worn for many years. I too will endeavour supporting locals establish their own shops as Abacus Shop fittings has done.
